First Stages of Bathhouse Construction in Byron Bay

Construction at Navia Byron Bay began in November 2024, marking the exciting transformation of our vision into reality. Within a matter of weeks the foundational elements of the bathhouse begin to take shape as the wall skeleton was installed, and the concrete stairs and pool were carefully poured—laying the groundwork for the serene, immersive experience we had imagined.

The Intersection between Purpose and Design - The Scandinavian Bathhouse

From the outset, we wanted to embrace organic forms and natural flow throughout the bathhouse. This vision came to life through arched walkways, curved walls, and flowing curtains, creating a seamless and tranquil atmosphere that invites relaxation. Every detail of the bathhouse was carefully considered to ensure a balance between refined elegance and effortless comfort.

A key element of Scandinavian design is its use of natural materials, particularly rustic timber, which brings warmth, texture, and a timeless aesthetic to any space. Scandinavian saunas often incorporate reclaimed wood, embracing sustainability while creating an authentic and grounding atmosphere. We wanted to honour this tradition in the bathhouse, integrating natural elements that reflect both Nordic influences and our Byron Bay surroundings.

To bring this vision to life, we partnered with Solid Grain Timbers in Byron Bay, a local supplier specialising in reused timber. This not only supports local craftsmanship but also ensures that our space carries the rich character and history of reclaimed wood, seamlessly blending Scandinavian inspiration with an Australian touch. The natural timber is featured prominently throughout Navia, complementing our signature stone—a striking marble with deep blacks, rich blues, and soft whites—which was carefully selected to elevate key design elements such as the reception desk and change room vanity.

To complement this, we designed custom-made lockers that are simple yet eye-catching, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Every piece within Navia is intentionally crafted to enhance the sensory experience while maintaining a deep connection to the natural elements that inspired our journey.

Crafted for calm, designed for depth.
